West Indies all-rounder Sunil Narine hammered 26 runs in the innings’ fourth over, while Australian batsman Chris Lynn scored 28 runs in the first two overs. Sunil Narine reached his half-century in just 15 deliveries and had amassed 54 runs off just 16 balls by the end of the powerplay. Back then, it was the IPL’s joint-fastest half-century. Despite losing Virender Sehwag, the explosive opener, early on, Manan Vohra and Wriddhiman Saha pounded the ball all over the pitch.

Manan scored 29 off 11 deliveries, while Wriddhiman hit 52 off 23. These 86 came in the opening six overs. In the end, Punjab defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by six wickets, as the powerplay sprint was the deciding factor between the two sides.

Rajasthan Royals, went on an attack against Sunrisers Hyderabad’s bowlers at SRH’s home ground for the first time after 9 years. Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal took advantage of Hyderabad’s batting-friendly conditions, scoring 85 runs during the powerplay. Buttler ramped up the aggression by hitting fours on the off-side and sixes on the leg side at will.

For his team, Buttler, who had a superb 2022 season, brought his exemplary performance for the tournament’s first game. The Captain of the English white-ball team scored fifty runs in twenty balls but was dismissed by a bowler, Fazalhaq Farooqi. This is Rajasthan Royals’s biggest score in a powerplay competition, bettering their previous powerplay score of 81/1 against CSK in 2021.
